If there’s one thing that can make or break your company, it’s how you promote it. Without promoting your business in an effective, ongoing way, you can’t hope to bring in new customers. Without bringing in new customers, there’s no way to grow, expand or even stay in business. There’s a lot of debate out there about which methods are effective and which aren’t. Some techniques work well for certain companies but fall flat for others. At the same time, there’s a handful of tried-and-true tactics, including promotional products, which every small business should have in its arsenal.

Put Social Media to Work for You

At the very least, your small business should be active on popular social media sites like Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. A minimal amount of time and effort on these sites can produce incredible results. In addition to directing people to your company’s website, your social media profiles will allow you to connect with them in very beneficial ways. Without being active on social media, you can’t hope to get ahead.

Get Your Name Out There

While it’s true that promotional products aren’t anything new, there’s a reason for their continued popularity among businesses of all sizes: They work. Customers are tickled when they are given something for free, and businesses benefit by spreading the word about their products and services. If you decide to try these products yourself, make sure that they include contact information for your business. Your business address, phone number and website address should all be included. You might want to include an email address as well. Whether you choose promotional pens, coffee cups or other products, you can rest assured that your message will be received by plenty of people.

Encourage Customer Referrals

Nothing promotes your business as effectively as positive word of mouth. Although you can’t compel people to refer friends, relatives and acquaintances to your company, you can offer incentives that make them more likely to do so. For instance, offer a significant discount to the person who makes the most referrals in a single month.

Don’t stick with just one of the above examples. Try to use all of them. Never rest on your laurels either. Continually work to promote your company. Make it an everyday part of running your business. Be on the lookout for new tricks, tips and ideas as well. By continually looking for new customers, you’ll be a lot more likely to achieve ongoing success.
