The truth of the matter is that time is very flexible.  People just do not realize it or people just ignore this reality, but the truth is time is extremely flexible.  Think of it this way.  If you found out that you are going to die in three days, do not be surprised if you end up achieving things that you are postponing or activities that you thought would take a lot of time within those three days.

In essence, time’s flexibility is shown when it is compressed to meet an immediate deadline.  Conversely, time also expands to fill up deadlines that are set too far in the future.  For example, if a client sets up a deadline that is two weeks more than you needed to complete the work, chances are you would deliver the client order just in time, not two weeks ahead of time.  The guiding principle is time expands to fill up widely-spaced or distant deadlines.

Now that we know that time behaves this way, now that we are aware of how flexible time really is, we can use this truth to our advantage by setting tight deadlines for ourselves.  When you are doing work for a client, set up a tight deadline that is almost impossible.  Sure, the first few times that you do this you will blow the deadline, but eventually your mind will get used to the tight deadlines and you will start producing completed work ahead of time.  This is extremely important for effective and successful online businesses because if we set up tight deadlines for the 20% of the activities that generate 80% of our business’s results, we are able to explode the amount of results our business gets.  For example, if in a single day your marketing efforts yield only $100 worth of revenue and you spend all eight hours marketing, if you set tight deadlines, you may be able to generate $500 worth of sales.  Why?  Because the amount of activity has been increased through the setting of tight deadlines.  Continue to do this.  Make this a habit.  You probably will not be able to get it right the first few times, but keep at it.  Eventually, as your time horizon becomes shorter and shorter, you will see that your effectiveness and your productivity is increasing higher and higher and this is exactly what you need to take your business to the next level.
